Distillery artist Mitchell Karas is known for his landscapes and abstract compositions in oil, and mixed-media assemblages. He was born in New Haven, Connecticut and has lived and worked in Boston for most of his life. Karas, though primarily self-taught, has studied with John Clayton, Heather Bruce, and Lois Griffel in Provincetown, MA under the umbrella of the Provincetown School of Art.
Over the last ten years, his work has predominantly been shown and sold in galleries in South Boston, the South End, and the Provincetown Art Museum.
Karas concerns himself with the displacement of time and place to find new environments and a sense of control, where one can escape away from the daily chaos and drudgery that can so easily dominate our existence and thinking. Audiences are invited to enter these realms to discover their own experiences within the context of these sanctuaries.
The exhibition features a whimsical selection of Karas’ landscapes, abstract works, and found-object assemblages.
